Traditional Bell-Only Alarms
The bad news ...
- Most people ignore ringing bells
- Under official police policy, since 1998 police forces
will no longer respond to a ringing bell unless there
is further evidence of a crime being committed
- The likelihood is, under new government legislation,
you could receive a fine for noise pollution
|
Monitored Security Alarms
The good news ...
- An approved Alarm Receiving Centre will know that
your alarm has been activated and when confirmed will
inform the Police
- The Police will respond to monitored alarms issued
with a Unique Reference Number
|
How does alarm monitoring work?
You are connected 24 hours per day to an Alarm Receiving
Centre (ARC). This means that your property is monitored
even if you are away.
If your alarm is triggered either by the activation of
a movement sensor, door contact or fire detector, your
home security system contacts the ARC. This is achieved
by using your existing phone line.
|
What does this mean to you?
1.`Burglary / Home Intrusion - What happens
if intruders enter your home?
On initial activation the ARC will contact you, if you
are unobtainable they will contact one of your nominated
keyholders. On confirmation, that is when a second device
is activated, they contact the police and update you,
or your keyholder, that the police are on the way.
2. Personal Attack - Immediate Response for
Monitored Personal Attack Button
A 'Personal Attack' signal from a monitored alarm does
not require confirmation before the police are contacted
and informed you are immediate danger – under
the ACPO policy you will receive Level 1 response.
3. Threat of Fire - Fire Safety
With a monitored smoke detector integrated into the
system you don’t have to worry about checking
batteries and remembering to test them. When linked
in to your monitored alarm system, if you have a fire
in the home on receipt of the signal the ARC will contact
the Fire Brigade while you concentrate on evacuated
your family. The Fire monitoring part of the alarm is
automatically set 24/7 – whether you are home
or away.
4. Medical / Emergency - Emergency Help
If you require emergency medical assistance you can
press an 'Assistance' button (where fitted). A trained
professional will then call the premises and help you
in a calm and controlled manor. If you have a specific
ailment you can give us instructions to follow on receipt
of an assistance signal, such as to call you GP, a keyholder,
or on further investigation an ambulance.
5. Holdup / Threats - Duress Signal
“Aggravated Burglary” is becoming more of
a problem. With a monitored alarm you can send a secret
code signal to the Alarm Receiving Centre if you are
forced to turn off the alarm. The ARC will then inform
the police that you are in immediate danger –
under the ACPO policy you will receive Level 1 response.
